Carpets Throughout Summer - What Do You Need To Know?

In the summer, those of us who have laminate throughout the house, take up any rugs and make the most of the nice cooling floor underfoot. However, if you have carpets throughout the house, what can you do to maintain them through summer, and how can you keep cool in the heat?

Carpet Cleaning

In the winter, our carpets will have been subjected to an increased level of dirt, moisture, highs and lows in temperature and certainly a lot more wear as we spent more time indoors. So how can we get your carpets looking new again?
Carpet cleaning is best avoided when the temperatures outside are lower, or when there is a lot of moisture in the air. So now that we are heading into nice weather, and swiftly approaching the summer, this is the perfect time to get cleaning!
Cleaning your own carpet has never been easier. Whether you choose to use a cleaner in a bottle, you have your own wet/dry vac, or you choose to rent a carpet cleaner, all are easy enough to do. Just remember to follow the instructions!
If you are looking at doing the whole carpet in a larger room, we highly recommend emptying the room completely to start with, and having somewhere to store everything for long enough for the carpet to completely dry out. While a vac will pull the majority of the moisture out, it won't dry the carpet completely. Returning your furniture and belongings before the carpet is dry runs the risk of a damp smell, rather than the clean scent you hoped for.
If you are using a wet/dry vac or have rented a machine, ensure that you are using an appropriate cleaning product for both the machine and the carpet itself.
Alternatively, you can use the likes of shake 'n' vac, to put the freshness back. However, this may not remove ground-in dirt and stains that the likes of wet cleans can.

Professional Carpet Cleaning

Of course, if carpet cleaning isn't high on the list of things that you enjoy doing, don't worry, you are not alone. There's a reason that there are so many carpet cleaning professionals out there for you to contact.
While they all essentially do the same thing, make sure that you take a look at what their prices entail, and how good some of their reviews are. Some may move furniture for you, while others will work around the furniture that you leave in place. Some will remove all moisture, others you will be required to leave the room to dry for 24 hours.
Whichever professional you opt for, please ensure that they are the right one for you. Offering quality cleaning at a good rate.

Keeping Cool With Carpets

If you have a high pile carpet, you appreciate how warm these can get. They are absolutely fantastic in the middle of winter. In the summer, they can make an already warm house, feel even warmer.
While a carpet itself will not create any heat, it will help to store the heat. Not to mention it will feel warmer underfoot. There are a few tricks you can try your to keep your rooms cooler when the sun is shining.
Firstly, when the sun is shining right on your windows, keep your curtains or blinds closed. This helps to stop the rays from hitting your carpets and heating them up.
Turning the air conditioning on in the room might seem like a worthless task if you aren't in the room, however, the cool air gets trapped in the carpet pile, meaning that when you walk through the room it is released into the air.
Finally, if you are considering new carpets in Tamworth, take a look at lighter carpets. These help to keep the room cooler by absorbing less heat.
