Carpets: They’re Back and They Are Bold!

All trends come and go, and we are glad to say carpets are BACK!

Recent years have seen a decline in new carpets being fitted, replaced with the easy clean and sleek look of tiles and laminate. But the good news is that carpet is making a comeback for 2020!

Carpets of old

We all know that carpets date back centuries in some forms, but modern carpets, as we know them, became popular in the UK in the 1930’s. With the introduction of loom-woven carpets in the early 1940’s, it became much easier to mass-produce, meaning it was now in many homes! The trend of carpets began to be seen as making a house a home, offering a warmth underfoot, without laying any rugs.

Carpet trends have certainly changed by the decade with some elaborate prints being associated with certain decades. You know the ones we mean! And most will remember the carpet that they grew up crawling across, most likely being a pattern that they will never forget. As times have changed there was a period of decline for the much-loved household decoration. The introduction of real-look laminate and slate look tiles threatened the carpet industry. Due to the easy clean and spill-proof nature of hard flooring, it was widely considered the easier option. We’re happy to be changing that view!

Neutral comforts

Before its recent decline, more neutral and plain carpets were big. The good news for some is that these are still in! But they’ve improved. The introduction of bleach proof carpet is great news for anyone with young children or those with a love of that clean bleach smell. A trend in 2019 saw everyone leaving behind the cliché colours in rooms, looking for something to show their individuality. This year, carpets are there to enhance this statement. With new designs coming to market regularly there will definitely be a pattern that suits your style, it may even be waterproof too!
