Sofa Beds, Revolutionary Or Left In The Past?

Posted on - 9th July 2021

Whether you have slept on a sofa bed, invested in one that was never used, or just love the idea of them, we all have our own opinions or experiences from sofa beds. So should they be left as a bad idea from the past or are they a revolutionary idea that we should all invest in?

The Positives

As with any item of furniture you bring into your home there are of course positives and negatives. This is the same when we look at sofa beds. So what do we consider to be the positives?
Space Saving - If you plan on having guests staying at your home, but space is a bit of an issue, investing in a sofa bed offers your guests somewhere to sit, which opens into somewhere to sleep.
Quick And Easy - Alternatives for guests staying over include airbeds and folding camping beds. While these are great options for space-saving, they aren't always the quickest and easiest options. Have you ever battled that airbed back into its box? Sofa beds should only take a matter of a minute to set up ready for your guest. Then all you need to do is throw a blanket and pillow on for added comfort.
Blends In - When not in use, the majority of sofa beds blend in and look just like any other sofa in the room. Those that don't make for a great style choice, such as the Matrix making a great addition to your teenager's den.

The Negatives

As we mentioned before, there are both positives and negatives, so here are our thoughts on the negatives of sofa beds!
Uncomfortable - There are very few people who consider a sofa bed to be a comfortable option to sleep on. However, when compared to sleeping on the floor or on a small sofa, we would rather a sofa bed.
Not The Prettiest - Sadly, there are seldom sofa beds that are considered stylish. Many are very simple and basic designs. Maybe not the best fit in most living rooms.

Our Verdict

Our verdict is that if you have the space in rooms away from your main living room then a sofa bed is a good investment. Such as if your children have friends to stay and space in their room. It can then double as seating in their room.
If you have a smaller spare bedroom, a sofa bed offers you somewhere to invite guests to stay, while not taking over the room for the rest of the time.
If you are looking for one that suits your living room, take into consideration the entire decor, you might not have that many options left over.
