Thinking About Artificial Grass?

Posted on - 23rd July 2021

Over the last 10 years, there has certainly been more buzz about artificial grass. At some point, usually while mowing the lawn, many of us have considered digging out the lawn completely and swapping it out for artificial grass. So, what are the real benefits of artificial in your garden, and is it with it?

The Benefits

The biggest draw for most people to opt for artificial grass is that your lawnmower becomes a thing of the past. As artificial grass doesn't grow, there is no need to get the mower out every couple of weeks, meaning no more battling the longer grass when it hasn't been done for a while.
Alongside no longer needing trimming, your artificial grass won't need to be treated for weeds! If you currently have a lawn you will already know that to keep weeds at bay, regular grass feeds and treatments are needed. You can forget all about this with fresh-looking grass all year round.
As we drive down the road, or look out of an upstairs window over gardens you may notice that most gardens are different shades of green, with some having patches too. Artificial grass will give you one colour throughout and patches will be a thing of the past.

With Pets

If you are looking at artificial grass but have dogs, there are a couple of things that you may want to consider beforehand.
Dogs eat grass when they have a bad stomach, artificial grass will mean that they can no longer do this in their garden. Ensure that you are walking them somewhere with real grass, particularly if they are showing signs of being unwell.
In the heat of summer, artificial grass can become just as hot, if not hotter than your patio. Dogs will usually head to the grass to keep their paws cooler. Ensure that you can shade them an area to relieve themselves when the sun is out so that they don't burn their paws.

With Children

Children love spending time in the garden! From rolling around when they are tiny to playing football as they grow and generally just enjoying being outdoors. This often leads to them coming back inside a little dirty, a few grass stains here and there and even the occasional close call with a bug to the mouth. Artificial grass can help to reduce all of this and give children a nice clean space to play.

If you have dogs and children, the great benefit of investing in artificial grass is how easy it is to clean. When your dog has been to the toilet you can simply wash everything away with a spray of the hose. If you want to take it a step further you can use an assortment of cleaning products including dettol, and on most modern grasses bleach!
