How To Start Getting Your Home Ready For Christmas

Posted on - 3rd October 2023

Now that summer has come to an end, you may start wondering about Christmas. While Halloween hasn’t even arrived yet, some may debate - is it too early to talk about Christmas?  We are not talking about hanging up Christmas decorations just yet, however, we believe it’s important to prepare your home for festivities earlier rather than later. If you love Christmas just as much as we do and you want to host the best Christmas yet for your family, guests or friends, continue reading as we discuss how to start getting your home ready for Christmas.

Clean & Declutter Your House

It may sound like common sense but cleaning and decluttering your house is a great place to start. From clearing out your wardrobe and kitchen drawers to going through old paperwork and home accessories. Disposing and giving away any unwanted items will give your home a much-needed refresh before Christmas.

We understand that most people have busy lifestyles and they may not have enough time to deep clean their entire house but the earlier you start, the less overwhelming it will be. For instance, having a to-do list and tackling each task at a time is less overwhelming than  facing it all in December, and being put in the precarious position of having to get it done quickly. Additionally, tackling a to-do list earlier will mean you will complete it sooner, giving you more time during the lead up to Christmas to enjoy festive activities with family and friends!

Update A Room

If you are thinking of updating a specific room within your home, now is the best time to do it before the hustle and bustle of Christmas time takes over. Whether it’s a bedroom, kitchen or living room makeover, making a start on it earlier will mean it will match the vision you have in mind, instead of completing it as quickly as possible later on, for the sake of just getting it done before Christmas. While a complete room makeover is an exciting transformation, small updates around the house can also be made such as repainting and hanging new wallpaper, or simply purchasing new cushion covers

Get The Guest Room Ready

If you are planning on having guests over for the festive season, it might be worth getting the guest room ready in plenty of time. As we mentioned earlier, this may include clearing out the guest room of built-up clutter and repainting the walls. You may need a new guest bed, mattress or bedding. Once the guest room is ready, you will have more time to focus on other aspects of your home.

Check Your Christmas Decorations

And lastly, make sure to thoroughly check your Christmas decorations before hanging them to ensure they are in good working condition. Batteries may need to be replaced and tree light bulbs may need replacements if old bulbs are not working. If you need a total replacement, most decorations tend to sell you the closer it is to Christmas, so it’s important to check your current Christmas decorations before having to replace them with new ones. Doing this earlier will also give you enough time to search for the right decorations and make a plan for decorating your home if you wish to make some changes this year.
