Think Flooring

While we don't expect you to swap out your flooring every season, however, we do think that in certain rooms of the house, you should consider laminate flooring. Of course, in the winter you can cover this over with a nice thick rug. But in the summer, it can help you feel cooler.
With carpets, they retain the heat throughout the day, which in winter is great. But sadly in the summer, it means that those unbearably hot days are longer around much longer than they need to.
Rooms that have laminate are significantly cooler in the summer as they do not retain heat. If you can keep them shaded this will also help.

Consider Shade

It might be the last thing that you want to do when the sun is shining, but closing your blinds can have a massive impact on the heat from the windows. The sun shining on your windows allows the air in the room to heat up. By blocking the sun, it can help to keep the air and thus the room cooler.
