In the summer, our homes can get warm. Even a fan on those extremely hot days might now be enough.
You may have read our article on keeping your house cooler in the summer, and seen that in some cases we recommend swapping out that carpet for laminate flooring. Well, we know that this is not to everyone's taste. So what can you do in your carpeted home?

Cooling Carpets

We know that carpets as a whole retain the heat. While in the winter, this really is a saving grace, in the summer, it can lead to uncomfortable nights, hot rooms, and certainly warm pooches.

The trick to keeping your carpets cooper in the summer is to consider the colour. Those of you with mucky pups or children might not want to hear it, but lighter shades are ideal for combating the heat. Consider sandy shades or light greys for the most comfortable experience.

Yes, your pile will be flattened in the short term, however, a good hoover will rough this straight back up. Please note that where the carpet is long-term flattened by general wear and tear this may not always work.
We also recommend removing your rug on those cooler days and hoovering up your pile at every opportunity. Although, who wants to spend hours hoovering when the sun is blazing.

Year-Round Carpets

Of course, you cannot change your carpet for every season, which means that many people, especially those that do not like rugs, will be looking for a great carpet all year round. The first thing that we advise here is to avoid wool. As we mentioned above, wool retains heat. Great in winter, but in summer you cannot escape it.
