Bringing the Family Together in the Dining Room

Posted on - 6th October 2020

In the past the dining room used to be the hub of the house. Everyone ate at the table, families talked about their day, children did their homework there, and at the weekend you might even have found a jigsaw puzzle laid out on the table. Fast forward to 2020 and you find that meals are eaten on a try in front of the TV, mobile phones have replaced conversation and jigsaw puzzles have been replaced by video games.
So why not bring back family time, even if the family has grown up and moved out, the dining room can still bring back many happy memories, and even create some new ones.

From Storage Room to Fine Dining

As we have all been using the dining room less and less over the years, many of us have begun to use them as a bit of an extra storage space. With the odd bit of furniture, the occasional box, and maybe even a christmas decoration or two. Well now's the time to treat the room to a good old declutter and make some space for some new memories.
Treat your tired old dining room to a fresh lick of paint, or a new layer of wallpaper to brighten up the space. If you're considering colours, why not opt for something neutral? This way you can choose any dining room furniture you like and jazz it up with some colourful accessories.

Choosing New Dining Room Furniture

If you're looking for some new furniture to start making the most out of your dining room again, you'll want to find something that suits the whole family. Whether they all still live at home, or just for those big occasions like christmas and birthdays, we don't want someone sitting on a garden chair at the corner of the table!
With many dining room tables now offering the ability to extend or fold down you can make the most out of your space at all other times.
From cute little two seater tables to grand 8-10 seater tables with matching sideboards and units, here at Toons we have something to suit all room sizes and families.

Choose your accessories carefully

To make the dining room the family hub once again, you'll want to choose your accessories in the rooms carefully. Starting with the removal of any electrical goods. These electrical items, such as the TV act as a distraction, and can reduce the rate of conversation. When you are adding accessories, incorporate all family members, making it feel like a comfortable room for everyone. From family pictures, to sports trophies anything with good memories is a great idea.

So, if you think it's time to move back into the dining room, come and visit our Toons showroom, where our friendly team of experts are always on hand to talk through your design and size needs, finding you the very best fit for your family. While you're there take a look through the rest of our collections, the occasional armchair in the corner of a dining room makes a great finishing touch.
