5 Ways to Add a Wow Factor to Your Home

Posted on - 12th February 2021

Here at Toons Furnishers, we understand how much pride our customers take in their homes. Let's be honest too, it’s always nice to hear the sound of a “wow”, or look of amazement as our guests walk through the door. However, what is it that induces this addictive response? We wanted to use our latest blog to share our knowledge with you. That way, you can blow your friends away when they return following the lockdown restrictions.

Bring Focus with a Feature Wall

Whether it’s your living room or bedroom, you can instantly add a focal point to your room with a striking feature wall. At first glance, the different coloured or patterned wall will get your guests’ attention, and then once they start to see the colour theme extend to your soft furnishings and surroundings, they’ll be blown away by its style.

A feature wall can be any colour of your choice, depending on which kind of feel you want the room to have. If you’re looking to achieve a more modern look to your home, bright but neutral colours such as white or black will be best suited. Alternatively, for a more cosy feel, deeper tones of reds, browns and amber will have your guests feeling settled and relaxed in no time. If you choose to go with wallpaper, you can have the best of both worlds. Picking a wallpaper with a neutral background and a different coloured pattern, gives you the option of embracing either colour depending on the time of the year.

Treat Yourself to a New Floor

People often underestimate the power that a new floor can have on interior design. However, it makes sense that a floor can make such a striking difference to your house, as it runs all the way through it. If you’ve had the same flooring for a while, it’s likely that it’s starting to look tired, or it’s no longer the colour that you want. If this is the case, it’s probably time for a new one, and you have a big decision to make. Carpet, or hard flooring?

Here at Toons Furnishers, we offer both and can share the benefits of both. If you’re looking for a much easier to clean option because you have children or pets, we would recommend opting for something out of our hard flooring range. That’s not to say that you should rule carpet out as there are ways to remove stains and maintain it. However, hard flooring is so much easier to clean. Alternatively though, if you’re looking for a more plush, cosy feeling room, a fluffy carpet can go a long way to achieving this. That’s not to say that hard flooring can’t achieve this, as people going for a rustic feel may prefer a wooden looking design. Plus, rugs can be added to make them softer to touch. However, there’s no getting away from the fact that carpets are the cosier option.

Add an Accent with Soft Furnishings

We’ve very briefly touched on this already when discussing the feature wall. By adding a feature wall, you may have already added an accent to the room, which refers to anything that stands out. However, in order for it to not stand out in a bad way, it’s important to try and transition this accent into the whole room. The trick to this is to be discreet with it which is why soft furnishings are the perfect tool.

If you have a feature wall that is white, with a green pattern for example, you can start to add soft furnishings to your bed or sofa that are the same shade of green or have a similar coloured pattern. This can also extend to any art, curtains or blinds etc. Once completed, this will tie the whole room together and paint an impressive picture as your guests walk in.

Focus the Room Around the Fireplace

There’s a reason that homes with an impressive fireplace are clamoured for. If you’ve already, got one, great. You’re ready to start orienting your furniture to maximise its effects. A fireplace is already a wow factor as it is, and you may not even know it. If you have one, put it on show. Move your furniture so that it better frames the fireplace, rather than hiding it away. You’ll be amazed at the impression that it can leave on your guests.

If you haven’t already got a fireplace, but you’re interested, look no further than our extensive range. We work with a wide range of leading brands such as OER Fireplaces, so whether you favour classical, more traditional styles or prefer clean lines with a contemporary finish, you’re sure to find the perfect fireplace for your room.

Sign Off With Some Finishing Touches

Like an artist signs off their work, it’s important that you put your own stamp of approval on your interior design. One of the best ways to do this is with some finishing touches. From art, photos and books, to mirrors, clocks and ornaments, Toons’ finishing touches range has everything you need to bring it all together.

Mirrors are a great way of making your space look bigger and brighter, our art can bring focus and relaxation to a room and photos can personalise the space. Whichever finishing touches you opt for, we’re sure you’ll make a great decision.
