You might think that there is not much technology that goes into carpets. So you might be surprised when we say that modern technologies have changed the future of carpets, and heavily impacted how we go about finding the perfect carpet for your home.

Consider The Usage

It has long been the case that high usage areas require a hardy carpet, usually a short pile to reduce the trodden on appearance. We certainly aren't hoping to change how this works! We still agree that a short pile is the best option here. But what about the choice between synthetic fibres or wool?

Getting The Right Fibres

Over the years there has been an increase in the number of different types of fibre that are used to make carpets. You no longer have to have a wool carpet. Most carpets are now made up of synthetic materials or blends of synthetic and natural materials. This is typically as synthetic materials are designed to resist stains, static electricity, fading and moisture.
There are five commonly used types of fibres used in carpets. Each one having various pros and cons:
Nylon - The most popular synthetic carpet fibre. It is well known for its strength and durability as it resists fading, mildew, staining and crushing.
Triexta - Similar in appearance to nylon fibres Triexta is significantly softer. It is naturally hydrophobic, so it repels stains and moisture damage well.
Polyester Fibres - Like the above mentioned Triexta fibres, polyester fibres are hydrophobic and resistant to stains. Polyester also offers a greater range of colours than some of the alternatives. However, these colours are prone to fade in the sun and are less durable than nylon.
Wool - The most traditional and natural fibre used in carpets. This option has a softer and more luxurious feel than its synthetic counterparts. Wool is a strong material that can hold up to heavy foot traffic and compaction from furniture, but it needs to be cleaned and maintained properly. Many stains as well as the chemicals in stain removers can damage the wool carpet.
Polypropylene - The newest in carpet fibres. This option is easy to clean as it is bleach safe. Hardwearing and maintains its colour, making it great for a family home.

Carpet Cleaning

For many parents of young children or pet owners, one of the most important considerations is how you can keep your carpet clean. Over the years, this has seen many families moving to laminates or vinyl flooring. But these never feel as luxurious or homely as a carpet. So which carpets are best for cleaning?
Polypropylene carpets are the best for keeping clean. Their unique structure makes them bleachable. This allows you to kill any bacteria that can embed itself into the carpet as easily as it arrived. Not having to use dedicated carpet cleaners helps to keep the process cheaper and easier than some of the alternatives. Allowing you to keep your carpet child and pet friendly, without the stains!
