If you’re thinking of replacing your mattress, the amount of choice out there can seem daunting, but don’t fear- with this handy guide you’ll have no problem choosing the perfect mattress for you!

Consider your sleeping position

The way you like to sleep should be the first factor you consider when choosing a new mattress. If you or your partner is a restless sleeper, it’s probably worth considering an innerspring mattress. Innerspring styles reduce the ripple effect that can occur when one person on the bed moves, so even with your other half tossing and turning, you can still have a restful night.

Stomach sleepers beware

If you tend to sleep face down on your stomach, it’s probably best to avoid a memory foam, or otherwise overly soft mattress. The last thing you want is to feel smothered, sinking face first into a memory foam mattress! Instead consider firmer foam styles, that will encourage a comfortable sleep for stomach sleepers.

Find the right support for your back

If you sleep on your side or back, you’ll want to find the right level of firmness for you. It’s important that your mattress is soft enough that you’re comfortable, but still firm enough to properly support your spine. Memory foam is a good option, particularly for anyone who sufferers from back pain or problems, but it’s really down to what feels most comfortable. Of course, there are a few other, equally important, factors to consider when shopping for a new mattress. If you struggle to sleep when you are too warm, it might be worth considering a mattress with cooling technology, and avoiding materials like foam or latex, which can hold body heat. If you suffer from allergies however, foam and latex are excellent options, as these materials are resistant to dust mites and mold.
