Over the years, there have been many different styles of lighting used in the bathroom. From bright white spotlights to yellow ceiling lights and everything in between. So when it comes to completely redecorating your bathroom, which style of lights are best for you?

Classic Bathroom Lighting

Bathroom lighting has typically been seen as plain and simple. Commonly this has been small, flat, round lights that sit centrally in the bathroom. These are still great lights! Even in 2021.
This style of bathroom light has been popular due to its simplicity and effectiveness in the space. You can keep to a simple, round, frosted glass light. Or you can update on this simple style and look at the modern Ellie 2.

Strikingly Bright

For many of us, we like the bright lights of the bathroom. Often the room in which many of us finish getting ready for the day ahead. Meaning that bright lights are key. Perfect for getting the make-up just right, or the beard line straight. For this, we recommend some nice spotlights!
Our top tip for spotlights is all about positioning. If you are looking to have the light perfect on your face while looking in the mirror, there is very little point in them being positioned behind your head. If your mirror is in an alcove or set back from the main light, why not check out some matching wall spotlights, this way you can reposition them should you need better lighting!

Ambience Lighting

If your bathroom is less about somewhere to get ready, and more about somewhere to relax, avoid the bright lights and look more at ambient lighting. From yellow light wall lanterns to pendulums hanging over the bath. The world is your oyster and there is a great range across the Toons store that will catch your eye.
When it comes to ambient lighting, our top tip is to keep it practical. We love the pendulum lights over the bath, however, if you have an over-bath shower, it might not be the best idea. Perhaps look at shorter pendulums away from the bath which can give just as nice of an effect

Top Tips

There are many things to consider when it comes to bathroom lighting. Here are a few of the important things to remember:

  • Remember to check the material your new light is made from. Due to the bathroom being a damper environment, certain untreated metals can start to show signs of rust, Meaning you will be swapping your new light sooner than you thought.
  • Ensure that they are fitted correctly. As above, the bathroom is a damp space, meaning that any fixtures need to be tight and secure.
  • Find the right size. Larger lights can be too overpowering in smaller bathrooms, while small single light fixtures can look lost in larger bathrooms.
  • Opt for matching finishes. Such as, if your taps are chrome, opt for chrome light fixtures to compliment them.

Most importantly, find a light you like. Our bathrooms are the room that typically gets decorated the least, so think of your new light fixtures as long term investments.
