Over the years there has been an increase in people opting for more neutral colours in their homes. Pastels are back in fashion and have been for a while. However, not everyone has the same thoughts when it comes to holding back on bold colours. So if you're looking at putting yourself out there and adding a bold colour to your decor, but you arent sure where to start, here are a few top tips from the team at Toons.

Choose The Right Colour

There are so many colours out there that are trying to be bolder than others around them. With such a selection, you might think about going for the best that catches your eye. We need to you stop, pause, and take another look. While we are all for going for your favourite colours, you need to ensure that the colour you choose will suit and that you can find the right accompanying features.
We often find that people opt for a shade of a colour that isn't commonly found, simply for that reason. This is great for individuality, but how many things can you find to compliment the colour. If you are introducing a bold colour, it is key that you can find the items you want, in the matching shades. For example, if you have found the perfect sofa, in bright orange, can you find the matching rug you want or the lampshades?

Don't Go Overboard

Unlike the '60s where everything was big bright and bold colours, don't go overboard with the colour. This also includes keeping the number of colours down to one or two key colours. You can then combine these with more neutral colours, or toned down shades. This will help your bold colour to pop, without being overpowering.
For example, if you are decorating the room, use your bold colours on one, maybe two walls, rather than a box of bright colours. Along with this, if you are having a sofa to match the colour, try to paint the wall behind the sofa in your neutral colour to help it stand out.

Compliment Your Style

Above everything else, make sure that whichever colour you choose, and whichever items in that colour you buy, make sure they complement your style. You may have found a sofa, with a selection of items in the matching colour, but does it match your own style. For example, if you like simple sofas, but the only one available in your chosen colour is a scatter back with lots of cushions, it's not the right sofa for you, even if it's the right colour.
You will find that, even if the colour is right, if the items aren't to your style, you will tire of them quicker, which will lead you to wanting to replace them sooner than you otherwise would.
