When Is It Time For New Lighting?

White light, yellow lights. Spotlights, chandeliers. There are a vast array of lights you could choose from in your home, so when is it time to swap them out for something new?
If you have already had your current light fixtures for a couple of years, you might have already decided it's time for a change. While others will keep theirs for as long as they possibly can, before making the change.

Kitchen Lights

Kitchen lights are one of the rooms that are rarely changed, but people pay more attention to the style of light that they are having fitted. With food preparation, many people will opt to have a brighter, yet more efficient light in the kitchen, over anywhere else in the house.
So when do you know it's time to change your kitchen lights?
While you keep your kitchen as clean as possible, cleaning your light fittings may not be at the forefront of your mind. So over time, the light fittings with gather not only dust but also airborne particles, which will attach to the fittings thanks to steam and heat from regular cooking. This can mean that your lights may start to dim, or not function as well as when they were new.
This is when it's time to swap out your kitchen light!
In the kitchen, we recommend taking a look at spotlights! In particular, those that you can angle to different sections of your space. This can allow you to make the most of the light in specific areas, while also ensuring a nice clean light throughout the room.
Our personal favourite at the moment is the Evelyn 5 light spotlight.

Bathroom Lights

The bathroom is another space that can be easily affected by heat and steam. With the shower and the bath radiating a great amount of steam, which is often trapped in the space for a period of time. This means that the best lighting in the bathroom is a complete unit, where it will be barely impacted by the moisture.
Over time, you may notice that your bathroom light is no longer a sealed unit. Sometimes this is noticeable when you can see moisture inside the light fitting. This is when you know that it is time to replace the light fitting.
Many people use the bathroom as a place to get ready for the day ahead, meaning that they want good quality light. We recommend the Poppy light, with a bright and white bulb to make the most of the space.

Dining Room Lights

In the dining room, people have a range of different opinions on which style of lights is best. From some favouring a more subtle and yellow light and others favouring a brighter light, allowing for a cleaner and brighter appearance in the room.
For the most part, there is no direct reason to swap out your dining room lighting, until you are ready to do so, or you are changing the decor. So ultimately the choice is yours!
If you are looking for some inspiration to swap your existing light to, and you have a long dining table, we personally love the Ethan Bar Lantern. However, if you have a round dining table the Iris Pendant can perfectly finish off the look of the room.
For more of a brighter space, take another look back at our spotlights. With a vast selection ranging from small clusters to long bars, you can find the perfect style to suit your space.

The Living Room

Just like the dining room, people will have different preferences with their living room lights. However, we have seen an increase in people investing in brighter white lights for their main lights and yellower, calmer lamps to use in an evening. And we absolutely agree with this choice as it offers you the best of both worlds depending on how the room is being used at the time.
In the living rooms, there is also no reason to particularly swap out your lights, unless you are decorating, they are damaged or you just fancy a change!
Heading into our Derbyshire Showroom allows you to browse our full collection of light fittings and lamps to enable you to find the perfect lighting combination.

Bedroom Lights

Your bedroom is your sanctuary. Yet quite often, you only go in there when you need to turn the lights on. This means that the lights in the room need to be the perfect ones to match not only the room but also the decor.
The Amelia lights are a great modern addition to your room, and we even have a range of lamps to match if you don't want to use the main light, including floor and table lamps.

Choosing the perfect lights for your home can be a very personal choice. While we have a great range of lights available on our website, we have even more available in the showroom and on display, online with a catalogue you can take away.

Once you have your new lighting sorted, don't forget to take a look at Blinds in Burton-on-Trent to ensure that you can maintain your privacy.
