At Toons, we are a well known supplier of a variety of furniture including rugs from Swadlincote. However, one of the products which is fastly becoming popular is our trusted coat rack.

Whilst a coat rack might seem like one of the easiest products to build and use, there are definitely certain things you will want to avoid when using a coat rack. As such, we thought it would be helpful to illustrate the do’s and don'ts when using a coat rack in the guide to coat rack etiquette.

Where To Hang Your Coat Rack?

Whilst assembling and hanging the coat rack up might seem like an arduous or simple task, deciphering where the hanger can go is far from straight forward.

It has been the topic of much debate amongst those in the industry of where is best to hang it, however, there are a few options that are much better than others. Arguably the most obvious is hanging your coat rack in an entrance hall. Hanging your coat rack towards the front of your own is extremely beneficial.

As soon as you enter your room will have a visual reminder to remove and hang your coat. Additionally, you won’t have to drag your coat throughout your home making it significantly easier to navigate through your home.

Another popular place to hang your rack is in a utility room. If your house has a utility room then you will understand that the room itself is usually neatly tucked away. This means any items stored in this convenient room are neatly stored away from harm and out of plain sight automatically making your home seem tidier.

Sometimes, a coat rack is not used as a coat rack. More and more people are hanging their coat rack in their bathroom and using it as a towel rack. The usually stern and sturdy framework serves as the perfect basis to hang many towels on.

Etiquette Rules

Because of the nature of many coats (that being they are incredibly functional allowing for multiple coats to be stored at one time) the chances are you will be sharing it. If you are sharing the rack, there are certain etiquette rules you should abide by. These can include:

Not Over Stuffing The Rack

When using or sharing a coat rack, there is an unspoken rule that you should not take up too much of the hangers with your coats. A general rule of thumb is one hanger per person.

Do Not Overuse Pegs

When sharing a coat rack, you will want to make sure that you do not overuse one peg. By this we mean do not pile lots of coats onto one peg on the rack. This can damage the rack and potentially lead to the peg snapping off if excessive weight is added over time.

Only Hang Coats

As previously mentioned, using a coat rack, people might be tempted to hang other items on the rack such as towels, caps or even other clothes. However, to keep things simple and less complicated, we employ you to only use the rack for storing coats.
