Over the years, rugs have become an integral part of many living rooms. They offer a little bit of something special not typically offered by your other typical decor. As a surveyor of premium rug’s from Swadlincote, we understand the importance of this sometimes forgotten living room decoration.

However, rugs are usually exposed to the elements during the winter period and as such, they can come under quite significant scrutiny and/or damage.

This is why we will detail some of the ways your rug might have been metaphorically battered by winter period and while we are look at that; we will detail ways to combat these.

Muddy Or Dirty Shoes

During the winter period, the weather can be treacherous to say the least. There is usually an over abundance of rainfall and icy conditions. As a direct result of this, the ground and various other surfaces can become muddy or dirty. Because of this, people coming into your home might have muddy or dirty shoes which can be trampled all over your pristine rug or carpet

Ways to combat this- the simplest and most effective way of combating this is by taking, or your guests, shoes off as they enter your home. Other ways to combat this is by cleaning your shoes with an antibacterial wipe. Or just hoover up the dirt that might be left behind.

Moisture And Potential Mold Growth

During the winter period, your rug will become more moist. When the air is cold and wet outside, like most of the winter period is, and the inside of your home is generally warmer, this can produce moisture in your rug or carpet. If your rug does get wet and it remains untreated, then it makes your rug the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and provides the perfect opportunity for mold to grow.

How to combat this- as you might have already guessed, you will want to dry your rug or carpet out if it starts to get damp or moist. If you have a small to medium sized rug you can simply had the rug outside to dry. If you have a larger one and hanging it out to dry is not an option you can actually use home appliances such as hairdryers or dehumidifiers to dry them out.

The Festive Season Has Taken Its Toll

As previously alluded to, the festive season can be a busy and stressful time, especially for your flooring. For example, the average rug in Swadlincote could see over a 100 footsteps a day on average. Sheer over usage and the increased chances of spillages and other accidents can have a dramatic effect on your rug in this period.

How to combat this- potentially the simplest and most effective way to combat this is by hiding your rug away just for the festive season while friends and family are over.
