Celebrating 50 Years Of Service With Toons Furnishers

This week, we’re celebrating our 50th Birthday here at Toons. And we couldn’t be more excited about it. For half a century we have had the pleasure of serving our local community in Swadlincote and the wider Derbyshire area. And in that time we have built a solid reputation for first class furniture products and second-to-none customer service.

With this in mind, it’s no surprise that we’re going all out this weekend to mark the occasion! As a business, our foundations are made up of high-quality furniture, a customer-focused approach, flexibility and fun! We know that our customers, both loyal and new, are the reason why we are still here today, and because of that we want to say a huge thank you on this momentous anniversary.

50th Birthday Celebrations At Our Showroom

This weekend (Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th November 2019), at our showroom in Swadlincote, we’ll be giving out 50 free goody bags each day to customers who visit our store. Within them, we’re giving away a huge range of freebies and vouchers including:

A £50 voucher to spend in store when you spend over £500
A bag of retro sweets
An exclusive branded Toons tape measure
A voucher for a free slice of cake and hot drink at our cafe
Buy One Get One Free offer on all Pasta King dishes (Saturday only)

Visitors to our superstore will also be able to feast their eyes on exclusive Toons Furnishers memorabilia from our archives. This includes a collection of vintage photographs featuring Bill & Jean Toon and our iconic vans. Just like the one below!

From Humble Beginnings...

Toons Furnishers was first established in 1970 as a market stall in Swadlincote selling carpet samples and rugs. The popularity of this stall grew, until we were also regular faces on markets in Uttoxeter, Burton on Trent and Ashby de la Zouch. Since then, the company has gone from strength to strength. In 1982 we outgrew our first ever showroom and moved to Castle Gresley alongside opening a satellite store in Uttoxeter. During the 80’s, we also introduced a range of 18 hand-woven oriental rugs and opened a small curtain department - which still persists today on a larger scale!

And if the 70s and 80s weren’t transformation enough for the business, the 90s was even bigger. Over 10 years we carried out major construction work on the Castle Gresley site, doubling the size and introducing a coffee shop. Then, 10 years later the superstore underwent yet another transformation, giving it the characteristic look it’s known for today.

Looking To The Future…

Looking at how far we’ve come and just how much we have achieved in 50 years is both overwhelming and joyous all at once. And it is in considering these major changes and accomplishments that we start looking to the future.

As a family-owned and family run business, we always strive to stay close to our customers through excellent service and competitive prices. And long may it continue! While we may not be able to predict what the future holds, one thing remains true: Toons Home Furnishers will always be a friendly, no-pressure environment staffed by knowledgeable and friendly individuals with the customer at heart!
