Give Your Bedroom A Glow Up For Summer!

Many of us have been working from home over the past few weeks. And while it has been absolutely necessary to do so, it does blur the boundaries in terms of work-life balance. If your kitchen has become your office recently, you might have found it difficult to switch off at the end of the day. While at the office you may have been able to draw a line under the day and walk away. When your computer and emails are only a few steps away, the tendency to always be in 'work mode' is very real.

Which is why creating those distinctions between work and home is more important than ever. And a fantastic place to start with that is your bedroom.

Bedroom Glows Ups For Relaxation

We are big champions of the notion that your bedroom should be a place of total relaxation. Whether you choose to curl up with a good book or snuggle down after a long day, bedrooms are a place to switch off. They are definitely not a place for work, or the stresses and strains of day to day life.

If you are planning a bedroom glow up this summer, below you’ll find some top tips from us on how to get it just right.

Lighten Up

We’re on track for a gorgeous summer, but sleeping in a hot and stuffy bedroom is no fun at all. So, the first place to start in creating an inviting, peaceful environment is to lighten up! Think bright and breezy wallcoverings, breathable cotton bedding and lots of lovely houseplants.

Another way to let light and air flow effortlessly into your bedroom is to choose the right material for curtains and drapes. Heavy, dark curtains work well in the winter because they trap heat in when they are closed. But they’ll leave you sweltering in the summer. Instead, plump for cotton or linen drapes that will welcome in cool breezes. If you find sleeping through the lighter mornings difficult, combine these with a blind to preserve those all important weekend lie-ins.

We recommend: Arley Plains fabric by Sanderson. This 100% cotton fabric is available in a rainbow of colours and can be used to create drapes, blinds, cushions and upholstery.

Pick A Theme

Picking a theme for your bedroom doesn’t mean you have to rigidly stick to it. However, it does give you some direction when choosing your decor.

Jungle, cottage-style and rustic themes lend themselves well to summer, as well as the rest of the seasons. Think bright whites, vibrant prints and mix up the texture where you can.

If a theme isn’t your thing, a colour scheme can also act as a great decorating guide. Depending on your style, choose one or two base colours to accentuate in your furniture and soft furnishings. Then, put your own stamp on it with the addition of light fixtures, bedside table lamps, shelves and framed prints or artwork.

Declutter

Our winter clothes and accessories can be bulky, and take up a lot of space. With the lovely weather (hopefully) here to stay, spend some time putting any winter specific items into storage under your bed or in your wardrobe. Then, while you’re at it, take a moment to declutter too. It doesn’t have to be too strenuous or a massive job. Take 5 minutes whenever you can to simply clear off a windowsill or reorganise a drawer.

As well as this, you might decide to swap out any heavy rugs and replace them with lighter, summer appropriate ones. Especially if you have hard floors and want to keep them protected!

Add A Pop Of Colour

One of the most wonderful things about summer is the bursts of colour. Plants are in full bloom, lawns are vibrant and the shining sun makes colours pop wherever you look. So why not bring that fresh feeling inside, too?

We’re thinking scatter cushions and soft furnishings in eye-catching hues and a few quirky finishing touches to meet your colour scheme.
