Latest on Improvements to the store
8th May 2009
We are undergoing a huge refurbishment and face lift to celebrate our 40th anniversary this year.
It is nearly 20 years since the main furniture showroom and warehouse was built. At that time the entire building was clad in the blue that everyone remembers and thinks of as 'Toons blue'. In that time the blue faded quite badly, especially in the last 5 years, leaving the building looking increasingly shabby. Meantime the interior of the building has continued to improve, with many new room sets and displays, all executed to a high standard. Increasingly the outside did not reflect the inside.
There were three small windows in the downstairs furniture showroom, facing the main road. Unfortunately the lay of the land means that the road is higher than the store and these windows were well below eye-level from the road, not providing us with much of a 'shop-window'.
We hope to address both of these issues with our refurbishment, firstly by cladding the building in a pale grey - much more modern and less prone to fading, and secondly by installing floor to roof glass in the central portion of the main building. This will allow passers-by to see inside our magnificent Furniture showroom, and provide us with a high profile display area for our most exciting products. At the same time we are replacing our old entrance foyer with a new, and better entrance, which will be much more welcoming, modern and cleaner.
The refurbishment started in March and is due for completion in June. It is business as usual and the store remains open throughout the reconstruction.
We feel very strongly that Toons is part of the local community and our investment in the building demonstrates our commitment to the area. We look forward to welcoming customers old and new during the exciting times ahead, despite the challenging economic climate.
